Painting Workshops With Lesley Seeger

Suitable for both adventurous beginners and experienced artists who want to loosen up their style.

The organic process and exploration of colour involved in my own practice is reflected in my teaching. I encourage people to find their own creative voices, develop their own techniques and become expansive and experimental in their work.

We consider composition, tone and colour and explore a range of painterly techniques such as layering, washes, printing and scratching out and also examine how different brushes can be used to make various types of mark making.

Workshops are usually held in the outstandingly beautiful village of Hutton's Ambo near Malton as well as other beauty spots such as Helmsley Walled Gardens and The Yorkshire Arboretum near Castle Howard. I can also travel to a group near you.

The two painting courses I will be running this year will use Mixed media, Collage and Painting to describe the flowers in the garden. The course will be more structured than in the past, using a set formula to create composition. This will support beginners more and still allow more experienced artists to really develop their work.

“What a wonderful day on Wednesday! I realised in the evening I felt happier and more relaxed than I had been all year! The sunshine and the landscape and the gorgeous food helped. But above all working alongside other artists with a sensitive tutor instead of doing my time in solitary - trying something new. Those first little sketches gave me more pleasure than anything I had laboured over. I will get out more and be braver working in the open.”

“I had a fabulous day yesterday. It was a very relaxing and welcoming day and a real pleasure to have the opportunity to see your personal studio. Thank you for being so generous with your time and techniques and for demonstrating your experimental approach to painting which was so refreshing, liberating and fun.”
