Using the beautiful landscape of The Yorkshire Arboretum we will explore fresh and original ways to describe the terrain. With an emphasis on working intuitively, you will be encouraged to take risks and step out of your comfort zone.
Sketches will be made out in the gardens and used as a base for paintings made back in the studio. We will study colour, paint application and the importance of strong composition. Artists we will look at will include Patrick Heron, Ivon Hitchens, winifred Nicholson, Mary Fedden, Barbara Rae and Gillian Ayres.
This course is suitable for both the adventurous beginner and the more experienced artist who wants to loosen up his or her style.
Please bring suitable clothing and footwear for working outside and sketchbooks
